Vacancy: Finance Assistant – Church Action on Poverty

Rate of £28,624 plus 10% pension contribution
21 hours per week, permanent contract
Options to work from home or offices in Salford

Join a small, committed team working to build dignity, agency and power to end poverty in the UK. The main duties of the financial assistant will be:

  • Maintaining financial systems through accurate record keeping.
  • Providing operational financial support to the wider staff team nationally.
  • Support Finance Manager to implement financial systems and processes.

Other areas of responsibility:

Building dignity, empowerment and strength to end poverty

  • Actively build relationships with colleagues, partners and individuals to strengthen networks across our projects and activities.
  • Encourage individuals experiencing poverty to speak truth to power and engage in social activism with organizations and partners.
  • Support the goals of the movement, organizations and partners by contributing to the campaign and community organization (eg the Poverty Week challenge).

Financial management

  • Assist in efficient and accurate accounting and recordkeeping of financial accounts, including regular reconciliation activities in accordance with standard processes.
  • Raise, receive, process, code and upload invoices to suppliers and financiers using financial management software (Quickbooks and Salesforce).
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements, credit card and prepaid cards
  • From supporters, members, churches, etc. record grants, donations and other income and maintain up-to-date donor records in a financial management system (Quickbooks and Salesforce).
  • Communicate with and respond to inquiries from colleagues, suppliers and program partners.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly fundraising progress reports, quarterly management accounts, Gift Aid claims and the annual financial review.

Software support

  • Manage, track and record petty cash and staff costs associated with program activities.
  • Support in regular reconciliation and reporting of donor income and program expenditure, responding to inquiries and providing up-to-date information to the wider staff team.
  • Assist Finance Manager in creating financial reports to track and monitor expenditures and report to grant funders

Compatibility

  • Ensure that your work is carried out to the required quality standards and internal financial management procedures are followed.
  • Provide documentation to facilitate program operations, including grant documents and funder reports.
  • Support the Finance Manager to ensure the charity complies with contractual and legal obligations.
